The Spirit picked up two Illinois players - Jennifer Donald and Corey Pitchford - to fill the roster spots vacated by Cassie Rupel and Amy Boyer. Jennifer "Goose" Donald plays first base and third base, but has been a very dominant pitcher in past years. Due to an injured leg this past spring/summer she took this summer season off from pitching with the Metro East Breeze. In the spring, Goose played for Dupo High School. She was one of the top area hitters in the small school division with a .414 batting average. On the mound she was 4-0 with 33 strikeouts in 19 innings pitched.
The second Spirit pickup from last weekend's tryouts is Corey Pitchford. Corey is a middle infielder and outfielder with good range and a good bat. Corey attends Marissa High School and played for the Metro East Breeze this past summer. Corey batted .360 for Marissa last spring in 100 plate appearances.
Both Goose and Corey are '92 birthdates, but will be Juniors this upcoming school year.
